Finding a New Job

Doing a thorough assessment of your personality, skills, interests and personal values is often required prior to beginning a successful job search. Being laid off from your job can lead to various opportunities and a chance to explore new and exciting career options.

To access your strengths, values, and skills you may decide to take some time to evaluate your past academic, professional, and personal experiences.  What kinds of things do you do well?  What do you struggle with?  Are you a numbers person or a people person, or a little bit of both?  Knowing these important facts about yourself will help you make some informed decisions when in the process of conducting a job search.

Some of you may decide that you would like to take some career assessments.  When working with clients, I usually use The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and The Strong Interest Inventor.  I have clients complete these two assessments online which then provides a Combined MBTI and Strong Career Report which can help assess personality traits, interests, values and how they play into the world of work.  These assessments are only used as tools to help further along the self-assessment process.

Choosing a Career

Making a career choice requires getting in touch with our selves and our surroundings. Tapping into our intuition and really listening to our hearts will help us to better assess our life and create a vision of what we want to accomplish in the world.

The most important decisions we make often occur while we are relaxing on a beach, enjoying a calm weekend with loved ones, taking in the beauty of nature, or in the peaceful hours of our day. Living a life of balance requires determination and persistence to really make it happen. It also requires letting go and enjoying what we have already accomplished.
